Biochip C :: 2001
(Lux Nigra)

Martin Damm has made music for more than ten years, in styles like
trance, ambient, gabber and electro. And electro is the theme for
2001, branching out towards both industrial noise and techno. Electro
has always been a rather unchanging music genre, and a pleasant retro
feeling may well infuse the listener of the album. There are also
more modern soundscapes, witness the mad drill’n’bass track Knobgine
for example. 2001> is well crafted and very enjoyable album for anyone
who likes electronic dance music.

The Beige Oscillator & DJ Attaché :: Waiting for Wood
(Charhizma)

What at first seems to be a CD of sharply edged electronic music soon
reveals hidden depths. The most digital sounds are mixed with
acoustic bass and jazz drums. A mutated downtempo crossing between
drum’n’bass and electro. And even if The Beige Oscillator & DJ
Attaché may use the same sounds that are found on all those “jazzy”
downtempo albums (from Berlin’s Compost Records, mostly), Waiting for
Wood
does not share that slickly clean boredom those albums suffer
from. A creative use of chaos, distorsion and analogue-electronic
bleeps and bloops guarantees the reverse. It delivers.

Solvent :: Solvent City
(Morr Music)

I’m very divided in regards to this album. One the one hand I don’t
find Solvent’s music very interesting. An orgy of analogue retro
kitch, Solvent City mostly sounds like an updated version of Yellow
Magic Orchestra. Only of interest for people that are totally snowed
in on old techno pop, it does nothing for me.
On the other hand, the last track of the album is absolutely
fantastically good. It’s Solvent’s friend Lowfish that has remixed “A
Panel of Experts”, resulting in a timeless piece of electronic
listening music with influences from both then and now. I’m pressing
the repeat button.
