How much further can sound be manipulated? So much music just waits to be explored, examined, created and altered until it finally manages to rest itself within the confines of our electrical “mindbox”; the ears. But what else is there to erupt in this vortex of a circular cosmic sound void? Could it be the rhythms of Abstract Polygon (a.k.a. Dez Septic, label-head) and Mad EP (a.k.a. Matthew Peters, based in New York)? The answer is yes.. An allergic yet attractive reaction of two distinct chemicals are featured on this split CD album; A debut release for Winnipeg, Manitoba based Tribal Treble. And now for a few words..

Deselect Mindbox is the work of Abstract Polygon with the first eight cuts representing his music; Tangled electronics are infested to the max with abrasive melodies falling ever so slightly into the drill’n bass arena. Tracks like “Snaer” and “Soft Refusal” break from the collage of beats displaying a somewhat “softer” side of Abstract Polygon’s disjointed fascination with the obscure. These introductory tracks clearly informs us that Tribal Treble’s focus is to produce the extreme in a genuine fashion while dissecting itself electronically. The schizophrenic drum programming of Abstract Polygon runs you over like a freight-train until we’re elevated into the sound of one, Mad EP.

This classically trained cellist of 14 years steers left of the beaten path igniting his machines with a fusion of hip-hop, jazz and furious basslines. “Mathamaddeck Park One: Acetaminiphen” takes vocal elements/samples and weaves them into a chemically charged percussive envelope of gritty rhythms. 460 image 2 elements are morphed to lullaby melodies with an organically chaotic flavor. “Rumble Bun Bounce” not only takes the cake on this disc, but also smashes it straight into your brain and feet. An ultra-wide bassline bends reality while fire-engines dance in a backdrop of nasty electronic chaos. Operating as Mad/EQ, Mad EP and EQvalent blend cut-up raps and rhymes on the rather short “Microdot [Mad/EP Assimilation].” Mavoo’s 3rd Day of 2nd Grade contains a refreshing dose of old-school appeal and mind-boggling frequencies, hands down.

Those of you into the darker, abstract territory of labels like SonicTerror, Component, M-Tronic, Vivo and Ad Noiseam should definitely take note of this debut split CD from Canada.
