rinse.repeat’s unkempt sonic beauty consists of six tracks and two bonus tracks titled A New Braindance Era. Braindance, according to Wikipedia, is “defined by idiosyncratic experimentation rather than specific genre constraints.” The term was also, more importantly, coined by Rephlex Records in 1991 (via The Braindance Coincidence compilation) courtesy of Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge. Braindance was described by Wilson-Claridge as “a way of life” rather than a musical style. Well, let’s just say that rinse.repeat certainly fits within the category of “a way of life” seeing as fragmented glitch, beats, melodies, and esoteric rhythms push and pull in swaths during this EP. Precision clicks’n cuts are also surrounded by complex and ever-shifting layers—and to be frank, it simply works.
A few of the original experimental electronic music makers like Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Plaid, Autechre, Arovane, Funckarma, Lexaunculpt, Solvent, Lowfish, and μ-Ziq, opened the proverbial doors for talented soundsmiths like rinse.repeat to reshape familiar concrete structures that began more than 25 years ago. While assimilating the past, the artist effortlessly refines a new braindance era by rinsing and repeating distinctive sequences to a polished sheen.
These abstract industrial-glitch tracks are simply extraterrestrial—incorporating nostalgic textures, tones, and blissful tempos well-suited for general-purpose audio work.
