Literally exchanging similarly crafted effects, this extended player elevates a quadruplet of audio fluctuations without veering too far into experimental territory. The fuzzy collection of exploratory sparks keeps a firm grip on distinctive production mapping ambient, drone, atmosphere and noise.

Josh Preston 'Exchanges 1-4'

[Release page] It’s always interesting to find gems in such a vast abundance of homegrown electronics these days. With music pouring through every crevasse, it’s an arduous task to give enough time and acknowledgment to each submission along the way. Josh Preston recently submitted a four-track Bandcamp release to our inbox and with only a single click it’s evident that this Sydney, Australia-based musician has talent to display. The four pieces featured on Exchanges 1-4 intermingle with each-other, like intersecting lazer beams reflecting off vintage analog synthesizers already speaking their own language. Although this might sound somewhat alien, there’s a warmth to the snap, crackle and blur that doesn’t go unnoticed in Josh Preston’s creations. Literally exchanging similarly crafted effects, this extended player elevates a quadruplet of audio fluctuations without veering too far into experimental territory. The fuzzy collection of exploratory sparks keeps a firm grip on distinctive production mapping ambient, drone, atmosphere and noise into a sound mass not unlike recently reviewed titles by Memory Geist, KemekLyonel Bauchet, Brek Zarith and Vici. As musical vehicles such as Bandcamp drive musicians into the world wide web of confusion, we’re glad to have pulled over to enjoy the vista-points that Exchanges 1-4 expels.

Exchanges 1-4 is released on Bandcamp. [Release page]
