Ben Rabenold’s (aka Precenphix) contemplative album, Husks of War is an ambient vortex of sonic activity, shifting storms, and piano elements blended with neo-classical structures (ref. “Exodus”). Additionally, rhythmic structures (“Evacuation”) with their strange, enigmatic flow and expansive, somber echoes (“Infiltration”) allow us to lose ourselves in its vacuous spaces. Powerful and glitchy electronics dominate “Occupation,” which evolves with roughened textures and technoid fractures. Yet Precenphix takes solace in these gloomier surroundings where shadows lurk and intensify—take note of “Innocence Dusk’s” turbulent strands and stretched drone tones.
