As the Summer comes to a close, Tabernacle Records follow the success of John Heckle’s Extrovert/Introvert with a trip to The Netherlands. Mark Du Mosch is perhaps one of the more subtle characters of the West Coast of Holland scene. But don’t let the mild manners of Du Mosch fool, this guy is a serious heavy hitter; serving up choice tracks on Lunar Disko, Cyberdance and Moustache Records.
Du Mosch takes his cue from a number of sources, with disco, electro and hints of techno blending together. For Tabernacle Du Mosch has produced four diverse pieces on the Exegesis EP. The 12” opens with “Blue Sphere;” the beats are vintage Du Mosch, but the melodies have quite a Roland Sebastian Faber feel to them. Synths warble and 70’s satellites orbit whilst a solid beat tethers the track to the floor. Downtrodden and deep. “Swingin It” has a much lighter mood. Those arpy sounds of “Blue Sphere” are carried over, with an uplifting modern disco feel coming through. The flipside sees some of the recent tones of Du Mosch’s Outerworld EP coming through. “Reminiscing” takes on elements of his latest techno tones and brings in real depth with 90s nostalgia. A really excellent piece, recollecting some of the warmer sounds of Detroit and British techno. For the finale the Netherlander serves up a much more house influenced piece. There are piano chords skirting the backdrop and a steady DJ friendly beat. The track unveils itself in some exquisite melodic breaks. Exegesis is arguably the most diverse EP in Du Mosch’s back catalog. Across a spread of labels this DJ, producer and artist has released some top notch techno and electro, but generally exploring single styles on his EP’s.
