Whether APF7U is user friendly or not is debatable, nonetheless, User Friendly provides ample glitched-out and sliced’n diced electronics shifting from broken rhythmic forms to more coherent threads. Described accurately as “a collection of recycled sonic shapes,” APF7U features 10 relatively short tracks that are packed with as much data crunching as humanly possible. We’re basically treated to the heaviest of the heavies, an artist that is comfortably on top of his audio and visual craft; expertly delivering ultra dynamic and detailed pieces that, while seemingly outside of our celestial plain, are actually within tangible reach.

Ultimately, a mind-bending auditory assortment not to be missed. Standouts appear in the following shapes: “7U-10,” “7U-1,” “7U-6,” “7U-3.2,” and closing with “7U-9.” Ravaged, distorted, and chiseled beat patches take over the entire landscape in an almost “Gantz Graf” rhythmic trajectory that IDM fans were treated to back in 2002 thanks to Autechre. This should, by no means, detract from User Friendly’s mission as he’s carving his own unique pathway. APF7U is also a cooperation between Detroit Underground and Christoph Grünberger´s new book The Age Of Data.
