Clean in architecture this single holds organic matter within that certainly makes it standout in such a heavy genre; it has a melodic touch in both harmonized vocals and disintegrated piano.
A wild display of saturated destruction
Hyperglitch, IDM and Bass artist prox.bleep delivers a new single RE:HER as a self-released taster ahead of their forthcoming release on Paracusia Records in April.
“RE:HER tells the tragic destiny of the character of Alice (evoked in one of the episodes of an audio series “ARCH” created in parallel) through rich and thoughtful sound textures, mixing with a soft and simple harmony. The project was born from the desire to rework an older track in the objective to make it correspond more to the universe and the aesthetics of prox.bleep.”
Possessing broken beat like sampling, like that of early Brainfeeder, mixed with sizzling sound design—we hear prox.bleep contort these aesthetics into a wild display of saturated destruction. Clean in architecture this single holds organic matter within that certainly makes it standout in such a heavy genre; it has a melodic touch in both harmonized vocals and disintegrated piano.
I spoke with a friend once about the history of dubstep travelling from Europe to the USA, combined with the loudness mastering wars—how it eventually got out of hand and deterred many from the original scene as it morphed into something else, namely EDM which is not what I am comparing this track to, but does have instances of where dubstep journeyed towards. In discussion, we spoke about how dubstep and bass orientated sub-genres that were very much about making things right in your face would eventually garner artists and audiences looking for an emotive tapping point. IDM having always been on the fringes with this point but with a glitch mentality too might soon intertwine. Maybe we are starting to see that come into fruition with releases like this—bass weighted emotive experimental music, that works not just in a sound design exploration but also a club environment; hearkening back to giants like Amon Tobin, but with fresh faces at the forefront. Dare I put forward a new vowel abbreviation in this post-genre exposition. The formula standing: EDM meets IDM becomes ADM (Abstract Dance Music). Food for thought, but don’t curse me on this—I’m just riffing here…
RE:HER is out now.
