(02.11.05) Five releases currently in the player include Boc Scadet’s Temporary Oceans and Yleptic EP, Colamm’s ep one, Shirase’s Nervous Flight Capital and Z-Arc’s Magnetic Shift on the UK-based Clickclickdrone label. Quite an interesting title for this label; accurately describing the electrical clicks and synthetic drones of their talented roster.

Boc Scadet, Lawrence Grover (label head), captured his moniker by fusing the letters of Autechre’s Basscadet EP box-set edition (Warp, 1994); he releases high-tech electronic abstractions that sparkle and shine on Temporary Oceans. On this full-length CDr, Boc Scadet unveils 11 integral pieces of pleasantly crafted rhythms much in the vein of Ochre and Zainetica. The crisp, clean and defined sounds of Temporary Oceans reveal the intricacies of thoughtful musical engineering. Hinting at Artificial Intelligence era feelings, Temporary Oceans is choke full of melodic manifestations that trickle down a smooth corridor of subtle tweaks, screeches and sublime frequencies.

On Yleptic, the 6-track CDr-EP by Boc Scadet, a flash of ambient fluctuations fall through the crackling decay of the cover arts depiction. Like Expanding and Cactus Island recordings, sincerity and fragrant textures are the elements that make this EP such a refreshing listen. Toytronic records recently used “Sel Alterat” on their latest Everything Is Green compilation bearing a striking resemblance to Autechre’s “Eggshell” (Incunabula, Warp 1993) with low-rumbling bass lines, shivering high-hats and exquisite melody arrangements that can easily be considered a tear-jerker if absorbed properly; quite beautiful, to say the least, and well worth driving to along the coasts.

Colamm’s ep one magnetizes the analog groove with sharp melodic elements. Within only thirty-minutes, this relatively unknown musician fabricates a landscape of tweaked out stompers that bend, twist and shear the typical realms of experimental electronic music. Not quite ambient, not quite techno, ep one morphs into fragmented, esoteric frequencies of hypnotic post-IDM reflections. Sliding under the radar with its ever pulsating tones, ep one features four epic tracks of transitional ambiences and fluttering electronics that will certainly appeal to a wide audience. The depths of ep one are well worth its realization in your CD player.

Paul Davies (a.k.a. Shirase) is out to set things clear on Nervous Flight Capital, the 6-track CDr-EP dedicated to the memory of John Peel. After a stint with a forgotten industrial noise band in 1989 and doing random musical projects as 686, Shirase grew from the ashes of the past by reflecting visions of lost time-capsules in the shape of sonic sine-waves. Nervous Flight Capital ventures into deep-space with its early Orb-like ambiences and weaving, disjointed percussive layers. Stretching time within 6 rather-short tracks, Shirase optimizes every element of his musical outfit by displaying the relevance of patience in music. Rather than display ambience in 8-minute pieces, Shirase leasurly captures atmospheric moments within 2-3 minutes. Balancing an aesthetical pulse similar to Legion of Green Men, Nervous Flight Capital is a casual listening experience that is both uplifting and imaginative.

Closing up this article with Z-Arc’s latest Magnetic Shift CDr-EP on Clickclickdrone, Kris Derry offers a colorful reflection of upbeat electro-synthetic pieces with an instrumentally intact punch. Downtempo grooves are elevated next to slippery slopes of rhythmic extractions; But just as you begin to realize the significance of such a release in your collection, Z-Arc closes up with the drenched ambient flickering of “4000 Years,” a revealing entity of majestic quality that simply astonishes the senses. If you’re looking for polished textures wrapped in a blanket of warm frequencies, Magnetic Shift will not only unveil as it suggests, it’ll suggest what you decide to unveil.
