While its exterior may shed elements of sun-soaked shoegaze balanced perfectly with lively electronics, Biodance is an abundant kaleidoscope of feel-good ear candy that will surely settle on many a top list for 2012..
n5MD continue their growth into powerful forays of emotion-filled audio extraction—but what’s astounding is when you can physically hear it buried inside the music. Not relying on a specific genre—though you might relate n5’s sound as splinters of ambient and shoegaze, which they excel at—Crisopa segues around these stylistic leanings and progresses more on instrumental sound design that peals away at every turn.
Exuding percussive outbursts, subdued bass, treated vocal swells and rhythmic acrobatics, Biodance is an upbeat masterpiece that merits repeated listening. Direct and open to interpretation, shifting melodies transition among heartfelt harmonies and a dosage of port-royal, Syntaks, Proem and even Telefon Tel Aviv pierce through the mist. Tracks like “Biodance With Me” and “Planets With Lava Oceans” bring with them a renewed sense of mystified electronic beauty. Elsewhere you’ll be hard-pressed to prevent a flood of goosebumps from emerging during “Cosmos Wallclock” (perhaps the most post-shoegaze of the lot) and “White Vacuum.” “Ques Nos Ataquen” rips through a cacophony of intense drumming and smoldering bass as it takes over the entire sound field.

As Santiago-born, Madrid-based Crisopa accurately describes, “Biodance is a system of self-development that uses music, movement and positive feelings to deepen self-awareness.” We wholeheartedly agree.
