The memorably titled The Expressions of Emotions in Man and Animals is part of a series of releases dedicated to Charles Darwin. A triumph in electronics and machine artistry.
[Release page] There seems to be a handful of ways a label gets started. The first is the most obvious, decide on it and do it. Fair enough. Others like to take a slower route. Some go the way of the club night, labels like Lunar Disko or Tabernacle Records. Perhaps one of the lesser treaded paths is blog or magazine to imprint. A new and upcoming imprint that has taken this road is Italy’s Electronique.it Records. The label is the offspring of the excellent electronic music magazine of the same name. With one release under its belt it’s time for a second. The memorably titled The Expressions of Emotions in Man and Animals is part of a series of releases dedicated to Charles Darwin.
The EP features three artists who span the spectrum of Electronics. First up is Britain’s Plant 43. With releases on the likes of Ai Records, Semantica and AC Records, Emile Facey is a seasoned musician. For Electronique.it Plant 43 offers up “Blue Skyways.” The track is a work of lush electronics. Autumnal chords are blended and developed over a steady beat. Deep and lovely. The duo of Valmass are next with “Gallano.” Instantly the listener is transported to the IDM sounds of the mid 90s. Electronica is the prevailing genre, but the orbiting 303 lines tether the track to a Techno tradition—an epic and superb piece. Yard closes with the sonic wall of “Cascade.” An audio bulwark of shimmering sound is constructed and slowly pelleted with crisp beats. As the track develops the snares gain substance whilst a burbling Techno murmur holds the backdrop. A track somewhere between ambient drone and minimal Techno.
A magazine is an interesting place from where to start a label. Over the years Electronique.it has developed its readership with an array of mixes, interviews and reviews. Whilst bolstering its audience Electronique.it will have undoubtedly developed connections and relationships with a range of artists. It is from this wealth of journalistic research and musical adoration that The Expressions of Emotions in Man and Animals comes to light. A record of depth rarely heard these days, but also of originality. A triumph in electronics and machine artistry.
