A variety of abstract electronic genres are explored in shimura’s Room Two, which blends breakbeat, ambient, IDM, drone, and complex beat patterns into a well-balanced, harmonious feast. Room Two draws inspiration from the London nightclub Fabric, its urban lifestyle, and its identity. It was seamlessly composed using a DAW after live recordings with modular synths and Pulsar—the resulting forces create new worlds by fusing minimalist and glitchy soundscapes and timbres.
“Surface,” the opening track, offers sharp fragments of data bleeps that coalesce while “Serpent” leans toward darker industrial layers of atmospheric textures and tones. Shimura takes solace in skewed electrical experiments such as “Meditation” and “Winter Solstice,” in which minute electro fragments appear and then disappear just as quickly. The title track loses itself in a dense mist with its staccato beat workout, jagged edges, and micro blips, while “The Clearing” shines like a beacon of rhythmic electrical sequences, following in the footsteps of classic IDM pioneers like Lusine ICL and Proem.
An exceptional release that is a technological highlight for 2024, gathering esoteric digital snippets along the way (reference “Fabric” and “Fallen”) to weave this aural tapestry. Fans of recent releases by VAAG, Suumhow, and Hexalyne should also take notice.
