Sebastian Plano :: Impetus (Denovali)

Constantly ebbing and flowing and intermixing all sorts of moods and styles, the eight compositions on Impetus evolve smoothly and move forward gracefully, like seamless plots. Sweet but not cheesy, melancholic but not dark, nostalgic but not sad.

Intimate, heartwarming and cinematic electronically tweaked chamber music. Step into the delicate yet igniting world of Sebastian Plano, where crooning layers of cello are beautifully woven together with moody piano movements and spiced with subtle electronics.

Plano is a classically-trained contemporary music composer and producer, born in Argentina and currently based in Berlin. Everything on Impetus—Plano’s sophomore album—was done by Plano himself. Cello, Plano’s main instrument; piano, electronics, bandoneon, percussion, vocals and recording, all done by him with a lot of finesse.

Constantly ebbing and flowing and intermixing all sorts of moods and styles, the eight compositions on Impetus evolve smoothly and move forward gracefully, like seamless plots. Sweet but not cheesy, melancholic but not dark, nostalgic but not sad. Ólafur Arnalds and Sigur Rós could come to one’s mind when diving into the music of Impetus, even Nils Frahm who mastered the album could come to mind, but Plano certainly has a voice of his own. This is a really great album for those last days of summer, before the leaves start falling from the branches.

Impetus is available on Denovali.
