Rainsleep :: Coalesce (Aud-Art)

An adventurous, nostalgic, and serene IDM manifest that takes us back a couple of decades.

Creative electronics with a heartbeat

Produced, written, and recorded over an eight-year period, Rainsleep (aka Johnny Jitters) is described as “a story about connection, love, loss and finding peace.” One can easily find this these moments of life spread across Coalesce‘s dozen pieces that carefully exhibit IDM’s pulse of the early 00s when artists like Arovane, Bola, Esem, Proem, and Tim Tetlow divulged in creative electronics with a heartbeat.

Buried in tiny fibers and dusty melodic layers, Rainsleep really finds comfort and solace. Drifting ambient motifs and delaminated synths, blips, and the usual bleeps find their way through a maze. Digging deep into the core of the artists’ life, he’s released a surplus of downtempo and melancholic tunes to reflect on as Coalesce carefully explores. Standouts include “Sanctuarium,” “Maior Amantes,” “Outland,” “Mergere,” and the peculiar buzzing synths wrapped around brittle glitch on “Fairy-tale hoax.”
