Ghost Story simply reveals itself as a continuously transparent storyline filled with exquisite audible delight that exposes hidden connections of human nature and its magical surroundings.

Kosuke Anamizu can (usually) be found polishing ambient spheres via his Moshimoss alias through which Dynamophone and nothing66 had the luxury of unveiling. Fast forward to November 2013 and you can find Kosuke finesse familiar layers into the newly formed Preghost moniker for n5MD. An ethereal magnetism is the result on Ghost Story.

Weaving sonic atmospheres like “Departures” and “Lostus”—and its fragrant upbeat reworking by Ametsub—there’s an underlying balance of hypnotizing creativity that simply can’t be ignored. Microscopic clips are triggered via “Cliff Edge Ghost”—it’s emotive soundscaping noise floats away in subtle harmony. Vocal intonations float through the haze on “Siusin” as its evocative leftfield tribal pulse takes on a dub-techno facade near its closure. “Predawn” featuring Primula transpires in this intriguing upbeat groove as well.

Though n5MD fans may parallel Ghost Story along Crisopa and port-royal lines, Preghost exhibits an allure that transcends, recreates and saturates the audio field with its translucent stardust. Not necessarily meant for any one particular genre abstract, downtempo strains are meshed to thinned shoegaze and dub-techno with an instrumental grip. “Alter Ego” seems to be the best description of these unusually attractive musical cues. Crowning pieces like the delicately woven “Snow Leopard” and chilled moods of “Seeker” (feat. Yuichiro Kato) are exuberantly crafted with a few wind instruments rounding off the proceedings.

In the end, Ghost Story simply reveals itself as a continuously transparent storyline filled with exquisite audible delight that exposes hidden connections of human nature and its magical surroundings. A soothing transmission that unfolds in careful detail.

Ghost Story is available on n5MD.
