New to these ears is Millip, recently signed to the forward thinking [d]-tached imprint run by Bovaflux (ex-Struktur). The aural canvass Millip paints is rich in yesteryear’s brightly colored IDM hues where fans of early Toytronic and deFocus will find common ground. Take the the title track as a prime example—its punchy beats and bleeps are rounded off by flickering melodies. It’s precision electronics done just right. On the highly contagious drums tip, “Sprinkles!” dives into faster paced rhythms and Amen breaks—the melodies (again) firmly placed in the foreground and the result is an uplifting percussion-centered opus. “Rainbows and Unicorns” and “Universe” transmit crunchier beats, downtrodden ambient streams, and wandering vista points. In all, Talk To Me is a brief jaunt—4-tracks meant to take you back, if not for the nostalgic images it conjures, but also for its firm grasp of composed electronic music.
Talk To Me is available on [d]-tached.
