Ishome & Doyeq :: Double review (Fuselab)

Something exciting is going on in Russia. A new movement of young and talented artists is stirring up the electronic scene with fresh cutting edge shades at times infused with old school spirit, and it seems that there’s a crowd thirsty for it. It feels bold, it feels underground. I haven’t had the chance to visit Russia yet, so I could be completely wrong, but based on some recent encounters with music by young Russian artists and some online reading, this is the picture I get. The mighty Bop was my previous Russian discovery; this year I discovered Ishome and Doyeq who released their sonic delicacies on the colorful Fuselab imprint.

Ishome :: Confession

Mirabella Ishome Kiryanova is a young and skilful girl who had already gained interest and praise before the release of her debut album, Confession, thanks to her live shows, mini releases on Proton Music, and win on a national contest for young producers that was conducted by one of Russia’s biggest e-zines. Confession is filled with funky vibes and groove. A piquant uplifting blend of slinky beats, warm bubbling synth showers, trembling bass and cunningly manipulated vocals. As it says on the press release: “She cuts, slices, plays, programs and mixes it all together by herself making a soothing mixture of complex broken beats, ambient atmos, quirky pop vocals and ground moving grooves.” Perfect for pre-party listening in the car but also for after party home listening. Brushing contemporary bits and pieces against classic forms of electronica, Confession is a refreshing work that generates sparks and electricity. Keep following this artist, as I have a feeling more sonic bliss will come from her direction. [Release page | BandcampLive album preview]

Doyeq :: Never Back

In April this year, Doyeq—a mysterious duo from Moscow—released a new full-length album on Fuselab, called Never Back, as a part of the label’s free name-your-price series. There isn’t too much info available on Doyeq, but wherever their music reaches it draws compliments and interest. Subtle electronica meticulously fused with rich acoustic currents. Never Back provides an effortlessly absorbing journey filled with penetrating and evocative sound architecture. It’s the perfect nocturnal companion. Sometimes dreamy, misty and contemplative, at other times cinematic and heartwarming. The motion is slow and hypnotic; ambient, modern classical and jazzy flavors glitter and croon. Highly atmospheric and full of depth and luminosity. For fans of Field Rotation, Swod, the more experimental side of Aleph Zero Records, and for anybody who’s searching for the strange and unique.
