Creating magnetic audible photos
Composer, producer, and sound designer, Ben Lukas Boysen (aka Hecq), based in Berlin, has transformed electronic music since the early 00s—his contagious rhythms and emotive powers persist on Form with Mesh. “Gyro” opens with roughened flares and growling undercurrents as its synth blips entangle in a beautiful maze while “Redom Solid” maneuvers flickering glitch’n bass beatwork and heavier technoid slabs midway through. It’s a formula that Hecq manages like a pro; creating magnetic audible photos that crackle and hum with top-notch production. The abstract pulse of “MX River” is a shuffling soundscape of punchy rhythms and gritty echoes as the title track unearths wandering and emotional ambient sandstorms, building into an impactful behemoth. Closing with “BKN,” and we find Hecq flexing his machinery with synaptic drum patterns and sputtering tempos. Ultimately, an unsurprising and blissful quintuplet to cool warm summer nights as Hecq smashes it in true form.
