Fred Again.. & Brian Eno :: Secret Life (Text)

A soft-tempo prescription to counter post-pandemic capitalist accelerationism.

A beautiful smooth-tempo prescription

It is a discussion there is no doubt. The new album presented by Brian Eno in collaboration with Fred Again..—a new producer of the EDM scene—who has just participated in shows with Skrillex and Four Tet, despite everything written in networks and media, to my ears it sounds like another master Eno pop album.

It’s amazing how the sound and personality of the English veteran takes complete possession of the album; it’s not for nothing that he’s considered the father of ambient and Secret Life has it all. It seems to me one more jewel among the formidable works of his and, honestly, I think that several pieces from Another Day on Earth (Hannibal, 2005) could be included here.

Fred Again..’s contribution lies in the sampling and production tactics, in addition to the vocals—although from what I’ve heard, Fred Again.. is one more replicant of the environmental genius: “Don’t think about giving up / Don’t even mention that you’ve had enough,” he sings repeatedly on “Enough.” All in all, this is a magnificence that bears Brian Eno’s seed very legibly inscribed from the opening with “I Saw You,” an ambient pop delight that would stand out on Kompakt samplers.

Ideal for oneironauts and followers of David Lynch, M83, and Moby. A beautiful smooth-tempo prescription to counteract post-pandemic capitalist accelerationism.
