eoism are riding a purple patch of creativity, their recent releases and live explorations signaling a period of peak productivity. Arriving on this crest, Cellarworx II channels hours of experimentation into a tightly honed, forward-thinking EP that pushes their sound into new, electrifying territories.
Peak productivity realized
eoism are enjoying a purple patch of productivity. The pair behind Pulse Drift Recordings have had recent releases on Inch-By-Inch, Funkscapes as well as appearing on compilations for Sound Benefits (amongst others.) They have also been refining their live set, playing more regularly and exploring new avenues. It is on this crest that Cellarworx II arrives.
The follow on from Cellarworx, this second installment is the result of hours of experimentation and noodling through live jam sessions. Influences comes from the Drexciyan universe on the aquatic “Merchant of Doubt,” soaked snares cutting through the liquid lines. “Time Mode” maintains the science fiction undercurrent, sharp angles and industrial edges rounded by analogue globules. The marine motif continues into the fluid movements of “Liminal Space.” What is also beginning to appear is another line of inquiry, elements of electronica and idm filtering in through.
The flip is introduced by “Cavity,” a clean percussive line stalked by distortion steeped knob jerks. “Monster Empathy” follows and is in attack mode. Fast and gnarled, BPM’s jump as acid lines rip through the track. Aggression courses in the close. Submerged in a thick reverb soup, monstrous croaks menace incising snares and orbiting keys in “Spectral Dominance.”
Cellarworx II marks musical maturing for eoism. Their output has always hit electro highs, but their recent focus and productivity are shining through as reinvigorated quality. Honing their technique with ever release, this latest EP is hitting shelves when eoism are at the top of their game.
