Auto Delta Time :: Inception (Acoustic Division)

It’s pretty hard to put your finger on Auto Delta Time’s sound. There’s something John Carpenter to it, but along the electro line. This isn’t a modern mish-mash, but an organic combining of influences.

Auto Delta Time 'Inception'

[Listen | Purchase] America has a proud tradition of electronic music; Detroit, Chicago, New York. The West Coast has produced some inspired machine music too. Not many people would think the Southern States of the US when electronic music is mentioned, I wouldn’t. Yet, there is a growing community of analogue and digital enthusiasts in the Bible Belt. Sure this isn’t a massive movement, but the likes of Convextion, Subermersible Machines and Disco Nihilist have grown up or made these the South their home. In recent years a new label has emerged from this unlikely home, Acoustic Division.

Despite its appellation, Acoustic Division is a fully fledged electronic machine. Built in 2010 the label has one 7” under its console and is now adding a 12” component has been added to the catalogue. Auto Delta Time introduces Inception, three tracks of electro aspirations. On putting the needle to this it’s quite hard to define what style has been adopted. In some ways the opener, “Act Re Act” splices into a number of sounds. The track is synth heavy with some industrial nods, electro undercurrents and some soundtrack thrown in for good measure. Such a cocktail sounds like a fussy drink, but Auto Delta Time mixes such disparate elements into a very palatable piece. The squelchy plods of “MS Minnie” follows, slowly building along analogue pads before breaking into a convert and clever piece of electronics. The finale, “Origin” is a sparse work, blending clinical beats with warm repeating notes to produce a simple and elegant piece. Stabbing synth chords descend and reintroduce some of the soundtrack echoes of “Act Re Act.”

It’s pretty hard to put your finger on Auto Delta Time’s sound. There’s something John Carpenter to it, but along the electro line. This isn’t a modern mish-mash, but an organic combining of influences. Three smart tracks from this fledgling label. Lookin’ forward to hearing some more.

Inception is out now on Acoustic Division. [Listen | Purchase]
