Continuing to stretch modular bass-acrobatics across unexplored terrain—much in line with Nocturnes (Umor Rex, 2014) which will see a repress as transparent blue wax—disjointed beats and fluid dark rhythms are carefully unraveled. A tremulous soundscape via eight unrelenting and abstract pieces is the result. The duo have mastered the art of shifting and sliding synthesized blocks into echoed detours. By reconfiguring ever so slowly, each minuscule bit develops into vast audible sub-structures. Driftmachine’s use of analog gear to create otherworldly eruptions is enthralling amidst its minimalist approach. Their moniker couldn’t be more on point with Colliding Contours, a clear highlight for 2016.
