Nightmare Scenario delivers sharp hard hitting vocal attacks coupled with some really low and dirty beats. It’s slow and dark with a fair bit of distortion, in a similar vein to the mighty Dead Fader EP that came out a while ago.
[Release page] This collaboration between Shadow Huntaz and Mad EP promised quality from the outset. I had the first album by Shadow Huntaz (Corrupt Data, Skam 2004) a few years ago, probably quite a few years ago now actually, but I remember being pretty blown away by it at the time. Hip-Hop, as we all know, has suffered at the hands of strictly commercial pop interference and the chase of money, but of course as always, at the core of things are the real artists, the ones pushing boundaries and keeping to truthful artistic expression. That has always been the case, and maybe now even more then ever. This EP is right there in that core. Shadow Huntaz have been holding down their thing since they got started, and Mad EP, well, the bulk of his work has been released through Ad Noiseam, so that speaks for itself. Needless to say, if you haven’t heard his work, you need to sort that out.
Nightmare Scenario delivers sharp hard hitting vocal attacks coupled with some really low and dirty beats. It’s slow and dark with a fair bit of distortion, in a similar vein to the mighty Dead Fader EP that came out a while ago (and is reviewed here), or maybe the mentalness of Death Grips. This is not Hip-Hop for the charts, I warn you. But, for anyone with a love of real Hip-Hop, this is prime dirty beat real estate. Do you remember Cannibal Ox? If that name means anything to you, then you know what I’m talking about, and this is for you. And if you don’t know who Cannibal Ox are, woah, allow me to introduce one of the most influential and groundbreaking Hip-Hop projects ever.
Acroplane have a history of putting out great releases, not scared of a bit of noise and with a finger on the pulse of underground music. This EP is a belter. The remixes are amazing too, including efforts from the aforementioned Dead Fader who are on fire at the moment, this one being no exception, alongside Ad Noiseam’s Cdatakill and Made. Buy this EP, seriously, just buy it.
