As Tropa reconfigures his audio machines and software, it’s becoming more apparent that he’s capable of propelling himself further into the past in order to replant electronica’s lost seeds.

Tropa

Tropa Tropa switches gears for this self-released three tracker. Having pulled off a solid venture with Outside Recordings on Love, Songs, and Alibis, Weight Of The World feels more like an aftershock filled with reggae influences meshed around Artificial Intelligence-era frequencies. “One Soldier” filters its Jamaican smoke, subtle clicks, swaying melodies and clear cut groove you’d expect to find in 2am coffee lounges. “We Fly By Night,” a colorful dreamscape of tranquilized low-bass emissions, is a flurry of nostalgia that elevates the subconscious just as quickly as it dissipates. Closing this brief 13-minute snapshot of mood shifts is the chilled trip-hop of “Looking East;” its echoed bass, classical undertone and silky flow dives straight through the core, delivering an Esem-styled dynamic that breathes new life.

As Tropa reconfigures his audio machines and software, it’s becoming more apparent that he’s capable of propelling himself further into the past in order to replant electronica’s lost seeds. And if Weight Of The World is just the beginning of a larger scope of work, we’ll be waiting patiently as this mini-EP sheds its low-rumbling sonic luster.

Weight Of The World is available via Bandcamp.
