The opening title track, a hyper-glitch industrial buffet, explores Daed’s frenetic energy right off the top with twisted acid and drill’n bass patterns flashing around delicate video-game elements and melodic shuffling. While the broken pulse of “specFucker” glides into heavy-duty breaks and bass distortion, the spastic beats of “Mosaic Decay” and “Ryo”—both positioned adjacent to each other—shape the darker and more abrasive elements of this EP. “Elegy” explores further melancholic soundscapes with its swooping synth swell as “Soul Conduit” delivers funk-filled breakcore forms and melodic threads swaying in the breeze. Simulcracy concludes with “Exiglyph,” a glitch implosion and mechanical drum invasion.

Consisting of seven short, crisp slices that mesh well together in an amalgam of fractured and frantic electronics, Simulcracy is a definitive reference point for the expansive Concrete Collage catalog. Fans of Squarepusher, Wisp, μ-Ziq, and Bogdan Raczynski should take immediate notice.
