Exquisite soundscapes and melodious lava flows
Rednetic label operator Mark Streatfield releases Divergent Paths via his Zainetica moniker—a thoroughly absorbing release that treads a fine line between early Artificial Intelligence-era electronica and contemplative melodies lost in time.
Tying up loose ends of rolling bass and organic flutter, Divergent Paths’ 10-tracks cross through a myriad of rhythmic layers, sometimes acidic and wandering (ref. “Jusqu’au bout du monde”) and at times flowing into downtempo streams as evidenced on the title track and “Miyuki”—a surreal and otherworldly slice of life in and of itself. Careful not to fall into mushy terrain, tracks like the gritty and bass-laden “High Precision Ghosts” are in-your-face and tangled in futurist sound sculptures. At other intersections, Zainetica treats the listener with “Crooked Beam” that manages to etch a blissful foray into colorful sonic landscapes as “Active Style” drives an overarching cerebral Detroit-techno trajectory worth repeated listening.
Zainetica continues to carve tempered and emotive electronic music that oozes with finesse as Divergent Paths captures chilled moments in time when early IDM musicians strived for exquisite soundscapes and melodious lava flows.
