An abrasive, agitated and swift EP that bursts at the seams, as it should, based on its initial construct.

Jesse Osborne-Lanthier :: Unalloyed, Unlicensed, All Night! (Raster-Noton)

Robust and well-rounded, it’s hard to believe this EP was conceived only 2-hrs before a live set in Paris. The Berlin / Montreal-based, Canadian unearths cataclysmic electronics for this Raster-Noton release. Broken techno slivers punch through on the clinical rhythms of “Blackwell Dynonetics.” Modular abstracts flourish on “The Zika Slam,” a dense wall of slithering sound. Mechanical, deconstructed electronics evaporate on “Integrated Sensor Is Structure,” its pulsing singular entity sounds like a sporadic oscillator mistake. “Lick And A Promise” is perhaps the fulcrum of this EP—digitized fissures and syncopated percussion are wrapped with a screeching entanglement making it almost difficult to consume in one listen. As a result, Unalloyed, Unlicensed, All Night! is an abrasive, agitated and swift EP that bursts at the seams, as it should, based on its initial construct.

Unalloyed, Unlicensed, All Night! is available on Raster-Noton.
