The single features “Carol,” just a few, utterly weightless warm breathes in a dark, frozen night, held aloft by Lunny’s viola and violin, and a “Lullaby,” which first holds tender vigil over the cradle and then rocks it with High Church fervour.
[Release page] A little midwinter picker-upper. Clodagh Simmons’ Fovea Hex—an elusive, fluctuating collective which has included marquee names like Brian Eno, film composer Carter Burwell, sound artist Colin Potter and Robert Fripp—has released three extended and one long player, each with its own, bonus ambient remix (by the likes of Andrew McKenzie and William Basinski).
This single features Fovea Hex stalwarts Michael Begg, Laura Sheeran and brilliant Irish fiddler Cora Venus Lunny, along with cellist John Contreros who, like Begg, Potter and McKenzie has been in and out of the Nurse with Wound sphere – and Matt Waldron and Jessica Way adding their voices to the chorus.
