Deep Spectrum :: Paraíso Fiscal (030303)

Deep Spectrum isn’t focused on the growl of the bass-box, his sound is one of blissful curves and arcing warmth. No surprise that the 030303 camp is exploring new sounds.

Fudgy basslines and calypso-like chords

Fans of 030303 will know that the Utrecht imprint is a broad church of sounds and styles. During its fifteen plus years of existence, braindance, electro, electronica, techno and much more has been tainted with a hint of acid by a spread of artists. Deep Spectrum sees the label explore something new with Paraíso Fiscal.

The six track début opens with “Forever Free” and a genre 030303 have only flirted with is given the full EP treatment. Warm cascading chords give way to rumbling arpeggios and crisp rhythms as a bright-eyed synth pop piece unfolds. Steeped in the traditions of italo and electro disco, the track is unabashedly optimistic. BPMs drop with the title track, a steady clap and kick supporting sky-gazing synth-lines. Inspiration is drawn from the rich seam of music from the 1980s, soundtracks being dipped into with the considered rhythms and emotive melodies of “Moon Memory.” There is a nostalgia connected to the analog line of composition employed across the EP, videogame flourishes with grander chords in “Zenith.” Despite this appreciation of the past, Deep Spectrum is creating sounds for a modern dancefloor. “Punchline” with its snappy drum patterns and infectious groove is a playful weapon guaranteed to have an impact. “Chau, nos vemos” closes. Fudgy basslines and calypso-like chords lend the piece a sand and surf quality.

And for those seeking an acid fix? Deep Spectrum isn’t focused on the growl of the bass-box, his sound is one of blissful curves and arcing warmth. No surprise that the 030303 camp is exploring new sounds.
