Telefon Tel Aviv :: Dreams Are Not Enough (Ghostly International)

The return of Telefon Tel Aviv is familiar and yet completely new. In some ways carrying forward the sound of the older releases, but this time, into new rhythmic territory, and with a significantly darker and more sobering vibe than before.

The return of Telefon Tel Aviv is familiar and yet completely new. In some ways carrying forward the sound of the older releases, but this time, into new rhythmic territory, and with a significantly darker and more sobering vibe than before. Incorporating many of the broken rhythms from the Second Woman project (literally, the exact sounds and rhythms already used on the SW releases) into a melodic, pop sound, works surprisingly well. Dreams Are Not Enough contains complex and sometimes dissonant rhythms supporting a rich and engaging (if extremely melancholy, Radiohead-esque throughout) melodic vibe that speaks of isolation and beauty. The vocals found on this album are very well matched to the music, and there are some great moments here that would not surprise me if they made it onto the radio, so well-honed are the pop influences.

Dreams Are Not Enough is available on Ghostly International.
