There’s a bit of a story behind the Cyan name-tag that started out as a color concept EP in 2017 but not seeing completion, however, the individual tracks began to take on additional hues resulting in the 19-track manifest known as Cyan Abandon. But not all is lost, a fuzzy nostalgic glimpse at what was, and now is, a full force ambient-IDM album with six balanced remixes is the outcome. Dissolved’s signature sentimental and electrically-charged audio particles remain firmly at its core.
Strange and otherworldly sounds abound on Cyan Abandon. A glitch-infused and surreal ambient collection can be found throughout, the lucid activity more prevalent than ever before—but this should be no surprise to fans of the Scotsman. “Lake Replacer” is a prime example of leftfield synth notes falling by the wayside as “Moon Algorithm” and “Schemata Shadowed” feature classic Dissolved sound-scraping rhythms. Its arcane, broken, and diffused beats brush up against low-pressure melodic pitter-patter. Cascading drone-tones take flight on the emotive “Walking Realm Red” as “Fentrasmal” dips into ethereal sonic streams. The remixes (by Dialed, Coppice Halifax, Nonima, Re-Arbeiten, Cyclea, and Weldroid) offer seamless quantum entanglement and a polished veneer to the original stems—their reconstructions flourish with unique perspectives.
