zvλd :: Baklava (Occult Research)

A brisk jaunt through dissolved electro contortions revealing that zvλd is able to easily distort micro-electronics with finesse.

I’m not sure how this one slipped under the radar, but I’ll admit it should have received a proper listen in 2017 when it was released. Imagine, if you will, a cross-section cut through the abstract electro rhythms of Phoenecia and you’ll get a rough idea of where Baklava projects its sound. Seven highly contagious tracks with “Haunt” being a personal favorite—its downtempo groove-infused style is an intoxicating listen. Elsewhere you’ll find pieces like “Zysygy Grey” inhabit fuzzy breaks’n glitches punctuated by a dizzying foray of leftfield bass. “Plurabelle” takes the Amen-break to another level—the Squarepusher’esque percussive pace and melodic flickering are bright and punchy start to end. “Skytale” delves into a bubbly mechanized trove, its inherent direct pulse drives a wedge between the dancefloor and headphone listening. As a result, Baklava is a brisk jaunt through dissolved electro contortions revealing that zvλd is able to easily distort micro-electronics with finesse.

Baklava is available on Occult Research.
