Wirewound 'Wirewound EP'

Randomform Sorin Paun must have several robots assisting him with sound design. Separating between outfits has to be time consuming as his Randomform alias envelops obscure data-mining while the Datacrashrobot alter-ego forages for minute pulses of flickering electro. Wirewound may just be the link connecting the two alien-infested, mind-numbing worlds. Morphing textured basslines and scorched synths, the four slices of audio carving on this extended player for Acre Recordings keeps each robot from crashing into each other.

“Bit Synchronization” is a toughened shell of muddied electro broken up by the sounds of warm digital buzzing. “Liquid Adaptor” treads similar pathways, however, it sprinkles a layer of filtered bells directly above distorted humming and straight ahead breakbeats. The tertiary title track—perhaps the inspiration for the Wirewound moniker—is a rubbery stampede of electrical smudging that bends and twists its low-pressure gusts of wind above syncopated beats and shifting frequency splatters. “Xylogic Interrupter” introduces barely audible vocal snippets as it dribbles mechanical rhythms, light buzzing and dark soundscapes across its exoskeleton.
