Vizion Centaur :: Epochalypse (I, Absentee)

Each of the thirty-minute pieces is the soundtrack to its own eschatological fantasy, music within which to ride into oblivion. Imagine it all ending neither with a bang nor a whimper but with a long, drawn-out, rainbow coloured echo.

Vizion Centaur 'Epochalypse'

[Release page] Two broad, gentle arcs described by the American duo of Warren Kroll on Moog and Juno synthesizers and Christopher Dutrieux on electric guitar, the former already involved in a number of projects, the latter making his recording debut. Each of the thirty-minute pieces is the soundtrack to its own eschatological fantasy, music within which to ride into oblivion. Imagine it all ending neither with a bang nor a whimper but with a long, drawn-out, rainbow coloured echo. The title is the giveaway – Epochalypse orchestrates slowly imploding, polychromatic heavenly cataclysms being swallowed by their own reverberations.

The duo has obviously drawn inspiration from neo-psychedelia, sharing its breadth of vision but distinguished by a mighty show of restraint and masterful, patient texturing. “Disslovements in Time” has a shiny, striped surface and deep, dark base, while razor-tooth guitar rails against an undulating aurora borealis on “Psychic Circles.” Don’t let one distract you from the other.

I, Absentee has chosen to express its dissatisfaction with the state of the music industry by opting out of the business altogether and donating all artist and label profits for a year to reputable charitable organizations, with the proceeds from this particular release going to a wildlife preservation trust.

Epochalypse is available on I, Absentee. [Release page]
