Victor Delicato :: Self-Titled EP (Sterpete Dischi)

1702 image 1 (04.29.08) In 2005 a new electro disco inspired label entered the scene, Sterpete Dischi. The Italian imprint was established as a sublabel of the Heckengäu. Around Christmas of 2005 the synthesizer fuelled space love song EP Lunapark was released by Lunapark, aka Prisoner of Love. The track was a wonderfully sombre work of energized electro chords and vintage drum beats with arpeggio runs and haunting female vocals, an amazing piece of neo disco. After Lunapark Sterpete Dischi went off
the radars, dodging into the darkness. It looked as those the label was lost, forever to float in the vacuous expanses of the one release imprint folder. But, this was not to be the case. In recent months a faint signal was picked up with news that Sterpete Dischi was not only alive and well, but had picked up a fellow explorer: Victor Delicato and his Self Titled EP.

The record opens with a roll of vintage synthesizer sound as the 80’s inspired “Koala Crisis” enters. This opener is a rich piece of analogue disco. Italo and electro influences can be heard throughout with their combined sound through Delicato’s fingers producing a wonderful energy filled Italia work. The second installment brings in “Midnight Gazette.” The dancefloor friendly feel keeps on as Delicato blends a mix of powerful chords, sharp beats and subtle tones to produce a heady track; even a bit of vocoder action thrown in for good measure.

On the B-Side the driving seat is taken by synthlines as “Sabotino Foceverde” struts in. The analogue melody is playful with a good tempo whilst arpeggios of disco tease and dance on a floor of crisp drums. “SS2 Breeze” finishes off the bright blue vinyl release. A serious synth melody is isolated before the track is compiled and brought together to create an amazing finish to this EP.

Delicato’s sound is quite difficult to pin point. It has elements of italo, but is definitely not spaghetti dance. There are aspects of electro disco in here, yet the sound is not there either. There is even a bit of a nu disco and Lindstrom taste, but that is not it either. This sound, found lying between southern Tuscany and Rome, has absorbed the sun and sounds of past years to produce a passionate electro disco that is as individual as it is enthusiastic.

Self-Titled is out now on Sterpete Dischi.
