V/A :: Painting Pictures On Silence V2 (Enig’matik)

Painting Pictures On Silence V2

[Release page] It can be challenging to consume and digest such a variety and selection of glitch-infused music—especially when it comes to Enig’matik‘s knack for high-quality graphical and sonic detail. Having released such an influx of audio-visual heavyweights allows the imprint to flourish and expand into new terrain rather quickly. As they shift into high gear, Sun In Aquarius has compiled a second installation of Painting Pictures On Silence—quite a literal translation when it comes to analogies—by dialing in on just about every coordinate on the planet. The result? A smorgasbord of low-end frequency interruptions with magnetic appeal. The label has continued in their tradition of keeping an open-door policy that invites musicians to flex their sonic muscles in the form of glitch, abstract, bass, dub, tribal, dubstep, ambient, groove and funk. And there’s definitely no shortage on this full-stop compilation with contributions from several recognizable names—Si Begg, Access To Arasaka, KiloWatts, Frank Riggio, Geskia, Quanta—as well as lesser-known names that have easily pushed their way upwards including Sensient, Birds Of Paradise, Zunzagi, Chris Komus and Faithfull. With twenty-two tracks to digest ranging from two to eight minutes in length, this vast array of music may initially seem overwhelming in terms of quantity, however, their ear for technology, sound and vision is on target. Painting Pictures On Silence V2 will easily attract the ears of many as the Australian imprint delivers a definitive cross-section through the bass-heavy electronic scene. Marrying future worlds with extraterrestrial appeal, each snippet of sound forges through a tunnel of complexities and in the end what’s left is a sense of calm among the apparent influx of electronic data crunching.
