Talk In Colour :: Candles (Self-Released)

Hints of folk, electronica, guitar pop, jazz and even perhaps a touch of classical influences combine to make music that is, if not revolutionary then at least nice to listen to.

This free release entitled Candles from London based outfit Talk In Colour is a rather nice acoustic electro pop melange that has a certain folky charm to it. Sweeping layers of harp, cello, guitar build a platform for the vocals of Mary Erskine to lead the song through its slightly pop oriented route. Don’t let the word pop put you off too much here, for although it is undoubtedly in the ‘popular’ camp, it is not that of the sickly, cheesey or particularly faddy variety. Hints of folk, electronica, guitar pop, jazz and even perhaps a touch of classical influences combine to make music that is, if not revolutionary then at least nice to listen to.

The remixes that accompany this release are both pretty darn good it has to be said. Crewdson steps up with a quirky glitched out take on the original, incorporating lots of pops and clicks all conjured up solely from the original stems. Plenty of subtle micro programming and nerdy manipulation goes on, but reined in so as to be effective and enhancing rather then overdone and irritating. Quite mood inducing actually and rather successful. Ricky Fabulous goes for a more conventional remix style, plenty of bass and bouncy electro drums building and dipping for drama and impact.

A lovely release well worth grabbing for free. Get it from Bandcamp.
