Sub Loam :: The Unfolding Map (Wist Rec.)

The Unfolding Map offers meticulously done dialogues between field recordings, processed micro sounds, drone-scapes and other manipulated acoustic strangeness. A nice, unusual and welcomed musical excursion.

Wist Rec is an Irish independent label and leading actor in the DIY experimental, challenging music universe with Lost Tribe Sound, Flaming Pines, Fluid Audio and many more. The label is headed by Gary Mentanko. One interesting and in-depth interview can be found online at Analogue Chat Soundcloud page. Despite being a new label in the underground music scene Wist Rec has already constituted an impressive catalog and has welcomed some notorious acts such as Loscil, Christina Carter, Nadja next to the signature of promising new projects.

Sub Loam (alias Thomas Shrubsole) is a newly signed musical entity on Wist Rec. Various small mini-albums and a tape (mostly on Dissolving) have been published under this moniker during the recent years. This new Sub Loam album is delivered as a 3xCDr packaged in a small box, edited to 85 copies and enriched by a craft-based design.

Under a radical approach this corpus of articulated noises and textures reinvest the concept of “sound mapping.” Sonic elements are mixed to story-telling sequences. The listener pleasantly wanders through intriguing scenes and locations. Concrete sounds operate in an ambient space filled with a wide spectrum of emotional aspects, psychoacoustic leads and structural ideas. In brief The Unfolding Map offers meticulously done dialogues between field recordings, processed micro sounds, drone-scapes and other manipulated acoustic strangeness. It does not lack details, unexpected events and originality that will require several listenings. A nice, unusual and welcomed musical excursion.

The Unfolding Map is available on Wist Rec.
