Stephan Mathieu :: Nachtstücke (Schwebung)

Stephan Mathieu is a prolific and really active sound artist who made a name in the world of contemporary electroacoustic researches and organic ambient music thanks to a handful of editions in solo or in collaboration (with John Hudak, Janek Schaefer, Sylvain Chauveau et al). Stephan Mathieu also dedicates himself to inter-media installations in various international places or for commissioned works.

This new album titled Nachtstücke and published by Schwebung in early 2015 directly announces the musical color with long monotous drone vibes, sculpted sonic ambiences playing on long chordal vibes, micro noises and ghostly resonances. The music captures the essence of spatial dimension through enveloping textural frequencies. Suspenseful and sometimes discreetly moody the soundscapes offers a seducing approach on timbres and tone colors. This captivating and slightly enigmatic, rumbling and mysteriously sonic experience can be associated to minimalist post-ambient impressionistic dreamscapes of Akira Rabelais, Richard Chartier, Andrew Chalk but also to the more conceptual electroacoustic adventures of Enore Zaffiri in Reticular Music and to the static meditations of Franca Sacchi. Peaceful drone hypnosis and cold sound sculptures that will ravish fans of the genre.
