V/A :: Some Like It Raw (Tripalium / Digital Mutant series)

Tripalium is a Paris-based independent label and organizer of live events whose objective is to promote and to participate to the diffusion of modern electronic music in its plural stylistic shapes, from clubbing breakcore beat laden blasts to more cerebral Illbient-IDM-chillout soundscapes and power electronic-industrial experimentalism. A large range of sonorous electronic adventures is represented here with the distribution of materials produced by young and emerging artists and projects, mainly from France. The label specializes in digital editions, collecting abundant materials for compilations and thematic podcasts. This one progressively tends to be an extended source of musical references, deeply rooted in urban modern culture / art scene.

Some Like It Raw is actually a production of their sub-label Digital Mutant series. The music delivered here embraces the path of underground, post-industrial and cold techno-inflected experiments. It guides the listener in a very abrupt, sonic and grimy labyrinth of electronic darkscapes.

The opening piece by Habyss is a nice and super hypnotic introduction in nightmare-ish cinematic ambiences that almost remind me sound manifests from Atrax Morgue and a few pioneering works in death industrialism. “Ascendance des Mages” by Hasard de Doria is another interesting composition in a relative similar style with more emphasize on experimental elements, a very claustrophobic and isolationist ambient track. Celome, Paulie Jan and most of the artists gathered for the occasion are following the course of minimal post-techno synthscapes with an inclination for lysergic, ominous pulsing grooves and bleak distortions as in “Ant Core” by the project Kolpo. Recommended for fans of punchy and extreme minimal techno weirdness.

Some Like It Raw is available on Tripalium.
