Signalstoerung :: s (Hymen)

While navigated by noisier elements and eerie sonic passages, there is a visceral and tangible calm that somehow elevates itself, a sort of hypnotizing effect of surreal electronic explorations. Confounding yet focused, evolves and breaks down, its ebb and flow a muddy electronic wasteland.

Signalstoerung (fonder of the German artist collective Global Noise Movement and Adventurous Music—also creates audiovisual events, DJ-sets, podcasts, and since the mid 1990s, his own music). Here we see his debut for Hymen simply titled s. Sparse rolling drums, tribal echoes’n effects, wide open spaces, and low-end traces are spread evenly among these ten tracks. Metallic clangs and slow-motion industrial noises abound, and yet abandoned modular undertones are pinned succinctly by drone-scapes that meander throughout. There’s a depth, darkness, and dub envelope that is continuously evolving, stretched to epic proportions. Broken percussive notes and downbeat doom-bass structures are the driving force.
