Shemale is an artist who has been beavering away in the shadows of Newcastle’s empty factories since 2006. . With Bunker the Toon denizen emitted some of the cruelest, darkest, abstract electro known to man. Shemale continued his seemly mission onto F.I.R. before Further gave cassette to his introspective ravings. Now, Last Known Trajectory have once again unleashed this electro wraith—fresh from the pressing planet comes Hell Transformation Screens.
The death mask is on display from the needle’s landing. Haunted satellite sounds course through “Dead City Photographs.” The track is gripping, a melody beckoning the listener closer whilst the solemnity of the beat distances. A terse and thoughtful piece of blackened electronics to open Shemale’s LKT account. “Banishing Pentagram” arrives with a solid snare and analogue reverb—a deep and functional piece with some echoes of The Exaltics coming through. Shemale dissects and remodels the electro formula, keeping some elements whilst twisting other aspects into grimaced synthesizer knots. The two sides of Shemale’s sound are present across the EP, macabre ambience and sinister electro. “Stone Circle” is a looming piece of laconic electronics with the sharpened edge of “Robot Prostitute” wielding serrated snares with dystopic sentiments. “Pointed Hell” has more a Detroit feel running through its circuits. The threat of Shemale violence is still present, but there is something of Arpanet running parallel. The EP recedes into the undergrowth with the sepulchral sounds of “Tomb.”
