[Release page] Noël Wessel’s (aka DJ Hidden) Semiomime project has put forth the vinyl release of Six Steps on Mindtrick Records, which traces some new territory in style and composition within its two tracks. The EP opens with “Six Steps,” a wide and moving film score, initially eerie, then providing hints of light through piano keys, to slowly illuminating a fairly involved arrangement as the song transitions to brighter, yet deep, tones. Accompanied by hard and distorted drumming, these elements all work to balance the tension and release, bouncing the listener to new and intricate auditory spaces.
On the flip side, “D- Coherence” jitters full of energy right from the beginning. Comped with an interspersed piano melody and digi-lead, the balance of arrangement incorporates acoustic-esque instrumentation with digital synthesis, acidic bass, drum breaks, and skyward focused pads. The sway between silky measures and peaking harmonies is quite far reaching. All together, “D-Coherence” works to stimulate interest, feeling as well as movement.
Comparing Six Steps to Semiomime’s prior full length LP (From Memory, Ad Noiseam), the present two tracks are beat centric at their core, as well as evolved and morphing within the two compositions.
