Roel Funcken :: Dear of the Yog (Touched Music)

Dear of the Yog is an impacting assortment of some of the finest, ear-shattering IDM spheres of radiant experimental electronics. Along the way, this (remix) album exudes powerful vibrations and invites several sonic sculptures to create and recreate to their ears content.

For all things beat-centric, bass-infused, and glitch-emboldened, Roel Funcken is your go-to artist. For Dear of the Yog, 19-tracks are culled in order to “improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to create a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately end animal cruelty.”

What we see here is a full-throttle collection of friends remixing Roel Funcken’s work and vice-versa. Slick as ice, each piece maneuvers through the atmosphere and takes with it the musicians’ personal sonic trajectory. Broken beats slide across roughened electrical patches—Ochre delivers an emotional synthesized noise cascade, Rumpistol glides by with precision sound-design, Kettel inhabits bristling ambient beauty, Lusine carves beats and bass like a true professional, Martin Nonstatic dips and dives through oozing dub vessels, and Woulg maximizes crunchy dark-electronic shuffling as it all collides blissfully. Roel’s remix for Humanoid and Ben Milstein are chock full of staccato drums and drifting acidic glitch falling by the wayside. Raw electro, breaks, and bass are corroded on Ben Milstein’s remix of “Balaklavskiy Prospex” as Generate revises “Leaved” with weaving dubstep introspection.

In all, Dear of the Yog is an impacting assortment of some of the finest, ear-shattering IDM spheres of radiant experimental electronics. Along the way, this (remix) album exudes powerful vibrations and invites several sonic sculptures to create and recreate to their ears content.
