[.que] :: Drama (Schole)

Coltish beats gallivant with comely melodies played briskly on piano and acoustic guitar and scrubbed vigorously with bubbly electronics.

[.que] is Nao Kakimoto, a twenty-five-year-old Japanese composer and sound designer who with Drama has created a fair-weather folktronica perfect for family picnics. Coltish beats gallivant with comely melodies played briskly on piano and acoustic guitar and scrubbed vigorously with bubbly electronics. Drama beams utter clarity and childlike wonder—that notes can float so round and shiny! This music is about flourishing, soaking in the sunshine, fresh as a daisy, gathering ye rosebuds. Except perhaps the mid-album nap “Rest,” which is tad saccharine.

Akira Kosemura’s Schole label specializes in the lyrical and mellifluous, and the sanguine demeanor of [.que] makes you feel better about yourself and everybody in the neighbourhood.

Drama is available on Schole. [Release page]
