Phragments :: All Towers Must Fall (Malignant)

Already part of the almighty and indispensable Malignant Records with two releases respectively published in 2008 and 2013, our favorite Slovakian figure of epic blackened industrial ambient music is back with a new puzzling and highly evocative release titled All towers Must Fall. The object is served in a luxury package and available as limited release. The more martial and solemn dark symphonical aspect of a few past releases (The Burning World, Awaken The Wolves) is less present to let the place to ultimate black droning rituals and more discreet repetitive textures. What a radical, evil-ish and powerful enthralling album it is.

Phragments proves here that they are capable to provide the same level of musical quality and sonic explorations than legendary cinematic, doom and dark ambient projects such as Lustmord, Yen Pox, Nocturnal Emissions. With its dark trumpet call and thundering bass frequencies the opening theme introduces the listener in a malevolent and adventurous sound ritualism absorbed by nightmare like hallucinations and shimmering darkness. “The Iron Well” carries on the prodigious dark and post-apocalyptical prophecy with slow moving and utterly tenebrous drones and organ thrills. This ocean of black drones coexists with more bruitist experiments and concrete music touches (as in the massive “Defiance”). Intense, mystical and demonic world of sounds whose spirit can be associated to the pictural dreamscapes mythologies, instinctive visions of Austin Osman Spare, Alfred Kubin, Jean Delville.

All Towers Must Fall is an insanely hypnotic and blasphemous album to be noticed among the best offerings from Malignant in the last few years. Play loud.

All Towers Must Fall is available on Malignant.
