Neud :: Play (Bordello A Parigi)

Moments from the past melt with a smoke filled lounge music for a chic and stylish début.

Neud_Play_featNeud are a new international group. New York and Zagreb are the stomping grounds of threesome of Nico Nightingale (Neud Photo), Iva Viskovic and Pierre Klein. The triumvirate are debuting on Bordello A Parigi with the five tracker Play.

The dreamy, lilting, summer tinted “Milky Sway” opens the EP in a haze of late evening sunshine. Breathy vocals are part of the formula, Viskovic offering a sexualised slant to the sweaty antics of “All Night.” It’s hard to put a finger on comparisons for this Trans-Atlantic crossover. The synth style of Nico Nightingale is definitely on display, but their faded pop lyrics and distance is quite unique. The tempo rises for “Il Salone.” Some of the fuzzed out sound call into mind the burgeoning Italo and Cosmic scene of the late 70s and early 80s, but the modern cut of the 12” is undeniable. Vocals take on a more instrumental role for the closer. “Plane To Sea” drifts on rich analogue lines, playful chords dancing against a neon speckled backdrop.

I must admit, I thought that Neud would stem from Neud Photo and that the New York artist would be the central column of the outfit. To an extent Nightingale is at the epicenter, but he is not the focal point. Instead the 12” combines all three of its composite parts. Moments from the past melt with a smoke filled lounge music for a chic and stylish début.

Play is available on Bordello A Parigi.
