Max Bellancourt 'Mind Forest'

[Reckno shop] Mind Forest is like an Andrei Tarkovsky film that has been drastically compacted but scarcely abridged. Like the Stalker gingerly picking his way through the Zone, each of Max Bellancourt’s sounds are meticulously situated and meaningful. A landscape revels in itself as it thrives unhindered and unobserved by man and overwhelms everything that has been left behind, which you can hear rusting underneath the rustle. Its five passages, “Past Present,” “Mind Forest,” “In Stasis,” “The Shinging Past” and “Future Past,” each frame a long, cinematic take rather than a chronological narrative. Bellancourt, a new name out of France, has crafted a post-industrial pastorale that stretches time and bodes well for the future. The wonderful cover graphic by Marcello Velho bursts out of the foliage as abrupt and addled as Bellancourt’s music is calm and deliberate.
