Marsen Jules Trio :: Présence Acousmatique (oktaf)

A highly atmospheric and enchanting ambient, electro-acoustic brew, soaked in delicate moody drifts of modern jazz and contemporary classical elegance. Dark at times, but not gloomy. Haunting. Meditative.

Martin Juhls (aka Marsen Jules and krill.minima) is back with a new album—this time created together with two co-conspirators: Anwar Alam and Jan-Philipp Alam on piano and violins. Two tracks, “Histoire De La Nuit” and “Éclipse” also feature Dictaphone‘s Roger Döring on saxophone. Marsen Jules is responsible for the electronics and live-soundscaping.

Présence Acousmatique is a highly atmospheric and enchanting ambient, electro-acoustic brew, soaked in delicate moody drifts of modern jazz and contemporary classical elegance. Dark at times, but not gloomy. Haunting. Meditative. Images of a forest filled with spirits and witchery can come to mind. I think that some fans of ECM recordings, and especially those who are into Scandinavian and European jazz, will find the six compositions on Présence Acousmatique quite attractive. And of course, I believe that any ambient fan with love for spacious, seductive sound design with organic and moody shades will enjoy diving into this music.

If you liked Martin Juhls’ Nautica album (released under his krill.minima moniker in 2007) some parts of Présence Acousmatique will make you feel right at home, while others will take you to some new regions in Juhls’ far-flung sonic world. Highly recommended.
