Lunar Lodge :: Singularity (Lux Rec.)

A sound for rain soaked nights and fog machine filled clubs, Singularity breathes through a crooked smile.

Lux Rec had a great year in 2013. Releases by the likes of R-A-G, Echo 106 and Alessandro Parisi solidified the Swiss imprint’s reputation as a label for exemplary electronics. Now with the new year upon us, Lux is introducing a new name to the family. Lunar Lodge are the Rome triumvirate of Luciano Lamanna, Filippo Scorcucchi and Filippo Terragni and they are beginning their vinyl life with Singularity.

The title piece looms into being, tribal echoes bubbling under 303 squawk. The track rumbles, brooding with a sinister intent. Anger boils through as the break allows snares to scar and slice. A caustic and corrosive introduction. “Signs” is less ferocious, but just as involving. Heavy chords loop while acid lines scratch and harangue. The track is heady, evil eyed and addictive. Hypnotising bars draw the listener ever deeper, moments of solitude allowing an almost lost human emotion to enter. A broad and bruising piece from these three Rome men. The opening tracks border on a murderous form of House. Rather than slipping into beat brutality and distortion, the bloodlust is tapered and the violence savored. Liquid 303 bars open the closer as a haunting melody soars. “Event Horizon” traverses the boundaries of Ambient, a palpable threat stalking throughout as the knives are sheathed for an atmospheric end.

Lux have unearthed some quality artists in their time, and Lunar Lodge can definitely be added to that roster. A sound for rain soaked nights and fog machine filled clubs, Singularity breathes through a crooked smile. Mutated melodies, which will burn speakers and scald dancefloors, alongside muted and soulful memories.
